How does Juvederm Voluma XC work?
Juvederm XC is composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally-occurring substance in the body. HA is responsible for maintaining the moisture levels of your skin cells – which creates a smooth, young and supple appearance.
Over time, your body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid diminishes. When Juvederm is injected into the skin, it replenishes the HA you’ve been missing, adding subtle volume just beneath the surface and smoothing out unwanted lines and folds.

Voluma vs. Sculptra: What's the difference?
Voluma and Sculptra are both used to enhance facial volume – but they work in very different ways.
Voluma is a filler, which means it provides immediate results by adding instant volume beneath the surface of the skin. Sculptra works by stimulating the body’s collagen production over time. As such, the results are gradual and most Houston patients require two to three sessions.
In addition, Sculptra is FDA-approved to enhance the full face, while Voluma is only approved for the mid-face region.

What to expect from Juvederm injections
Your Juvederm Voluma XC injections will be done in the comfort and privacy of our Houston office. Upon arrival, Dr. Wiener will review the procedure with you – outlining any potential side effects and your expected results.
From there, we will clean and prep your face while you relax in one of our comfortable treatment chairs. Dr. Wiener will then strategically place your injections, artistically sculpting plump and youthful cheeks that look organic – never overdone. In general, most of our patients require between one and two syringes for optimal results.
Because Juvederm Voluma XC is formulated with an anesthetic, this process is extremely comfortable. At the very most, you may experience a slight, short-lived pinch at the injection site.
How is recovery after Juvederm injections?
You will be free to apply makeup and return to work and your normal daily routine right away. If you’re receiving Juvederm prior to a special event, however, you should schedule two to three weeks in advance. Side effects are uncommon and typically resolve within a few days, but may include slight:
- Redness
- Brusing
- Swelling
Although there is no downtime associated with Voluma, you should avoid exercise, along with heat and sun exposure, for a full 24 hours. In addition, we recommend sleeping on your back for two nights to avoid disrupting the filler.
What is Juvederm Volbella?
Volbella is a dermal filler in the same Juvederm family as Voluma XC. However, the application is different. While Voluma is used to define and sculpt the cheeks, Volbella is used for men and women looking for lip injections in Houston.
