Botox Cosmetic® and Dysport® are injectable medications that are designed to temporarily relax muscles that cause certain facial wrinkles and lines. Both have been used in cosmetic procedures for years and have high rates of safety and success.
What can BOTOX & Dysport do for you?
- Diminish frown lines between the eyebrows
- Smooth crow’s feet around the eyes
- Minimize forehead wrinkling
- Restore a youthful appearance
BOTOX vs Dysport: What’s the difference?
Dysport and BOTOX Cosmetic are both forms of botulinum toxin A. As such, they both work by blocking nerve signals to certain muscles, temporarily relaxing them and the wrinkles they produce. However, there are some minor differences between the two solutions that patients should be aware of:
- Results take longer to emerge (4-7 days)
- Results last slightly longer (3-6 months)
- BOTOX can also be used to contour the jawline
- Results appear more quickly (2-5 days)
- More Dysport is needed during treatment
- Dysport spreads to a larger area
Candidates: Are you ready for BOTOX or Dysport?
Dr. Wiener recommends considering BOTOX or Dysport injections if you:
- Are over 18 years of age
- Have lines and wrinkles around the forehead and eye area
- Have recently had a cosmetic procedure and want to enhance or prolong the results
- Are not allergic to any of the ingredients found in BOTOX or Dysport
How to choose a BOTOX & Dysport provider
BOTOX and Dysport injections are available everywhere lately – from medical spas to parties to plastic surgery offices. However, to avoid complications and undesirable results, it’s important to be selective when choosing your provider.
A board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Wiener, is the ideal option. These individuals have experience performing cosmetic procedures and they understand the nuances of facial aesthetics and balance. They know how to place the medications to obtain the precise results you want – while avoiding an artificial, frozen or overdone look.

The injectionsWhat to expect
When you arrive at our Houston office for your BOTOX or Dysport injections, you will meet with Dr. Wiener to review the procedure, potential side effects and expected outcomes.
From there, you will sit in a reclining chair in the treatment room. Dr. Wiener will ask you to contract your facial muscles so that he can determine the appropriate placement of your injections. He will then mark the injection locations to guide him through your treatment.
Although anesthesia is not necessary with BOTOX or Dysport, Dr. Wiener may numb certain areas with a cold compress or topical cream to ensure a comfortable experience. Any discomfort you do experience will be extremely minimal and short-lived.
The actual injections take about ten minutes and will involve Dr. Wiener injecting the BOTOX or Dysport directly into your muscles using a very fine needle. Once your treatment is complete, you will be free to return to work and your normal daily routine right away, making this a true “lunchtime” procedure.
After your appointment…
As with any injection, there’s the potential that temporary side effects can occur. They include:
- Mild numbness or tingling
- Swelling and bruising
- An allergic reaction
- Drooping eyebrow or eyelid
- Flu-like symptoms
Minor effects like bruising and swelling usually subside fairly quickly. More serious complications are both treatable and extremely rare.
In addition, side effects can largely be avoided with a proper injection technique, which is why it’s so important to select a seasoned BOTOX and Dysport provider – someone with extensive experience administering these medications.
Maintain your look with repeat injections
On average, BOTOX and Dysport injections last between three and six months, depending on the medication used for your treatment.
Repeat injections will be scheduled no sooner than three months apart. As subsequent treatments are done, many of our Houston clients notice a longer-lasting result with each session.
