Choosing Your Perfect Implant

The best breast implant is the one that fits your body and meets your needs. It’s a personal choice that depends on a variety of complex factors, including:

  • Your body style + shape
  • The site of your incision
  • Whether you want a natural or ultra-full look
  • The amount of existing breast tissue present

The implant you select will impact the look and feel of your new breasts – so don’t rush this decision. As such, we encourage you to take your time during your in-person consultation at our Houston, TX office. Talk honestly and openly with Dr. Wiener about your cosmetic goals and desired enhancements so that he can guide you toward the implant that is in your best interest.

Your Breast Implant Options

Implant Options

Composed of silicone gel, this option is FDA-approved for women over 22 years of age. When our Houston patients choose this implant, it’s typically because they want a very natural look and feel.

  • Feels like natural breast tissue
  • Most commonly used implant option
  • Only available in a round shape

Gummy Bear

Our gummy bear implants in Houston are filled with highly cohesive silicone gel. They are firmer than traditional silicone implants, but they still look extremely natural.

  • Low risk of rupture, rippling and capsular contracture
  • Enhanced shape retention
  • Available in round and teardrop shapes

Saline

Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater. If our breast implant patients want to avoid silicone, or they desire ample fullness and projection, this option may be recommended.

  • Feels slightly firmer than silicone
  • Features maximum fullness and projection
  • Requires a smaller incision

THE CHANGE

Sientra Style 107: Implant Innovation At Its Finest

Sientra Style 107 is the first of its kind, 5th generation round breast implants. They are composed of high-strength cohesive gel, which was previously only available in shaped breast implants. This affords our breast implant patients a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Enhanced shape retention
  • Minimized wrinkling and rippling
  • Appropriate during traditional + revision procedures

For women who choose silicone or our Houston gummy bear breast implants, Dr. Wiener often recommends Sientra Style 107. As the latest in breast implant innovations, this option improves patient outcomes and delivers extraordinary aesthetic results.

Round or Teardrop: Understanding Breast Implant Shapes

When choosing your breast implants, you will need to decide between two shapes: round and teardrop.

Dr. Wiener does not use the teardrop implant, as studies have shown little difference in appearance for cosmetic augmentation compared to the round implant.

Round

Round is the traditional implant shape and the most common choice for women in Houston and throughout the U.S.

This option creates full, soft and proportionate breasts in a rage of projections and diameters. It is ideal for women who want a full, rounded look to the upper breast.

Teardrop

Anatomical or teardrop implants feature a sloped contour that mimics the shape of natural breasts. They are composed of silicone gel and require a textured shell to prevent rotation.

This option is ideal for women who are slim and/or want a very natural-looking result.

Implant Size: How big should you go?

When discussing implant fullness and volume, many of our Pearland, TX patients speak in terms of cup size. However, for a much more important factor is how the breast implants look and feel on your unique body.

As such, Dr. Wiener will have you try on a variety of implant sizes and review photos to identify exactly what you want your figure to look like after surgery. This process is more involved than simply choosing a cup size – but it will ensure that you select an implant that offers the precise volume you’re looking for in order to get some of the best breast implants Houston has to offer.

How long do breast implants last?

While it can vary significantly from patient to patient, it is safe to expect at least 10 years from your breast implants. Some types of implants may last longer, but very few fail prior. Individual factors will play a role in how long your breast implants last. During your initial consultation, we will review your options to give you a better idea of what you may realistically expect.

Can I receive additional breast procedures after getting breast implants?

Breast implants improve the shape, size, and profile of the breasts. As a stand-alone option, augmentation can improve the contours of the upper body and create a more ideal frame. Some women choose to combine augmentation with breast lift surgery to produce a more lifted and youthful appearance as well.

Once implants are placed, removal will likely be required before additional breast procedures can be performed.

Are breast implants safe?

Breast implants are medical devices that must receive approval from the FDA. While there is some risk associated with any medical procedure, breast implants are considered safe for most patients.

Some breast augmentation patients may experience complications such as capsular contracture or implant rupture that require removal and revision, but these are uncommon. So too are complications such as breast implant illness or BIA-ALCL, which will also necessitate removal.

What should I expect during my initial consultation for breast implants?

During your breast augmentation consultation, you can expect to meet with our board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your goals. Dr. Wiener will listen closely to your concerns and perform an examination of your breasts to establish which breast implant options – incision placement, implant placement, implant type, etc. – will be most beneficial for your needs. Measurements will be taken and computer modules used to show what results you may be able to expect.

If you decide to go ahead with surgery, we can schedule your procedure and discuss financing options during your initial consultation as well.

What are the potential risks associated with breast implants?

General surgical risks of breast augmentation include: excessive bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, and adverse reactions to anesthesia.
Risks specific to breast augmentation include:

  • Capsular contracture
  • Loss of breast sensation
  • Implant shifting/Asymmetry
  • Unappealing results

Breast implant illness and BIA-ALCL, a rare type of cancer, are potential risks of breast augmentation as well – though these are extremely uncommon.

You reduce your risks of complications – both physical and aesthetic – by following all of the pre and postoperative advice from our office. This will include ceasing certain medications, giving up all products containing nicotine, and getting plenty of rest after your surgery. We will discuss these things with you in detail during your time in our care to help ensure you are set up for the most rewarding experience possible.
