Breast Surgery in Houston TX

Which type of breast implant is right for me?

The goal of breast augmentation surgery is to achieve an outcome that looks and feels as natural as possible. Several factors affect this; breast implant type is only one of them. Patients who visit our office leave with an understanding of what saline and silicone implants look like and feel like. They also learn about the relationship between breast implant size and projection and their body frame, as this affects appearance, too. Finally, we discuss breast implant placement, as over-the-muscle will look and feel different than under-the-muscle. In short, there is no “right” breast implant for every person. Each case is unique and is treated as such by our experienced team.

What is a breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is one of the leading body-enhancing procedures performed today. The outpatient surgery adds volume and shape to small breasts to achieve better body proportions. Dr. Wiener’s patients can expect a thorough consultation and treatment planning process to help them determine their ideal breast size, projection, and type of implant. The outcome of breast augmentation surgery is greatly influenced by the thoughtful discussion we have during the initial stage of treatment.

Dr. Wiener offers saline or silicone breast implants. Brands and models that he utilizes have been strictly tested to receive FDA-approval. In addition to helping patients understand which type of implant may best meet their needs, our team also provides information regarding breast implant particulars such as profile and shape.

What is a breast lift?

Breast lift surgery, called mastopexy, is an outpatient procedure that is performed to improve breast contours. Different than breast augmentation, the mastopexy technique refines form by repositioning the areola on the breast mound so breasts appear perkier. The skin that holds the breasts is also tightened and trimmed. This corrects sagging and improves shape.

Can I combine a breast augmentation with a breast lift?

Often, breast shape changes as a result of weight loss or pregnancy and breastfeeding. Breast augmentation with a lift can be an excellent solution. This combination procedure adds volume to correct breast deflation and also repositions the nipple and areola area to project forward rather than downward. Tightening the skin during the lift facilitates better height and shape. This is an outpatient procedure conducted in our accredited surgical suite.

Am I a candidate for gynecomastia surgery in Houston, TX?

Men who are troubled by excessively large breasts can benefit immensely from gynecomastia surgery. The procedure removes both fatty tissue and breast tissue to sculpt the masculine chest. Any man who is uncomfortable with enlarged breasts may be a good candidate for gynecomastia surgery. However, because enlarged breasts can be related to obesity, it is strongly advised to seek surgery at an ideal weight. This is because altering breast shape and size without losing excess weight could lead to disproportionate results. There is a range of gynecomastia severity. Patients can have surgery to correct any degree of puffiness or enlargement as needed to promote greater satisfaction and self-confidence. Patients who smoke will need to quit several weeks before their procedure.

How Long is Breast Surgery Recovery?

Whether you have breast augmentation, a lift, or another breast procedure, you can expect your recovery to progress in stages. During your first week after surgery, you may return to the office for a follow-up. At that time, Dr. Wiener will check your healing and may remove drains or sutures, if applicable. This initial stage of recovery may involve moderate swelling, bruising, and discomfort. You may take prescription medication for up to a week to alleviate pain, after which time you may be able to switch to over-the-counter medication. While you'll have certain activity restrictions, you should walk for about five minutes every few hours. This encourages optimal blood flow that supports tissue recovery.

You may be comfortable returning to work after a few days to a week, provided that your job is not physically demanding. About four weeks after surgery, you may be cleared to resume light exercise. Your full clearance for all types of physical activity will occur approximately six weeks after your breast procedure.

Are the Results of Male Breast Reduction Permanent?

If you've lived with enlarged male breasts, known as gynecomastia, for years, you're well aware that this condition isn't responsive to diet and exercise. Male breast reduction is the only proven way to resolve the issue of excessive amounts of male breast tissue. To correct gynecomastia and restore masculine contours to the chest, Dr. Wiener may perform liposuction, glandular excision, skin tightening, or all three. Your surgery is tailored to your specific situation. Regardless, the results of gynecomastia surgery are expected to endure for many years, if not permanently. You won't grow new fat cells, nor new glandular tissue. Therefore, your prolonged results come down to how well you manage your weight going forward after surgery. The primary reason men experience a recurrence of excess breast tissue after their breast reduction procedures is that they gain a significant amount of weight. This isn't true gynecomastia. It's referred to as pseudo-gynecomastia because it is a weight issue. The good news about pseudo-gynecomastia is that a healthy diet and regular exercise can work well to resolve the issue.

How Long Do Breast Lift Results Last?

There are many factors that can affect the consistent results of your breast lift. These may include:

  • Your skin health. Your skin will thin with age. You cannot control this, but you can control how quickly it happens. Slow the progression of aging skin by avoiding smoking and tobacco use, and eating a nutrient-dense diet.
  • Breast support. The bras that you wear should differ based on your activity. When you exercise, it's important to wear a supportive bra that has a bit of compression. This offsets the effects of gravity.
  • Weight and pregnancy. If you become pregnant or gain a significant amount of weight, your breasts may become larger and heavier, pulling on the skin. Scheduling your breast lift after pregnancy or weight loss can be ideal.
