What is a breast lift?
Medically known as mastopexy, the breast lift is a simple aesthetic surgical procedure performed to remove excess fat, skin, and tissue of the breast and reposition the breasts on the chest wall. This is commonly performed for women who have breast ptosis, or sagging breasts. Drooping can also change the position of the areola and nipples, causing them to face downward. With a breast lift, the breasts and oftentimes the nipple area are repositioned for a more youthful appearance and to improve fullness and overall body contours.
What happens during the breast lift procedure?
A breast lift may or may not be done in conjunction with other procedures, including breast augmentation, when a breast implant may be used to add volume and shape to the breast along with the repositioning of the breasts on the chest. Incisions are made in a strategic manner to reduce visible scarring as much as possible, and with proper post-operative care, many women can avoid the risk of infection. The breast lift procedure is done under general anesthetics with our anesthesiologist monitoring a woman’s vitals from start to finish. The amount of time allotted for the procedure varies depending on the extend of surgical work that needs to be completed.
