What does Botox do?

Botox Cosmetic, or botulinum toxin, is a medication used to weaken or temporarily paralyze muscles in the area of injection in order to decrease active wrinkles of the face. This lasts on average 3-6 months. Botox doesn’t affect static lines- lines and wrinkles when the face is at rest, but decreases the ability to form active lines, such as between the eyebrows when squinting. Over time, if you keep up with the treatment, and therefore not constantly creasing these areas, even some static lines may soften.

For a first time injection, it may take up to 2 weeks to work. In my Houston clinic, I will do a medical history, as there are a few uncommon medical reasons to not inject Botox.

After the injection, repeat injections need to wait at least 3 months.

Botox can help improve that tired, angry look, “mom, why are you upset with me?” and can quickly achieve a refreshed appearance.
