Skin Cancer Prevention

Summertime is here which means lots of time out in the sun. Even in the winter and other months, however, sun exposure can affect the skin both with early aging changes and also skin cancer.

Sunblock

The main method of prevention or decreased risk of these issues is sunblock. A high-quality sunblock of at least SPF 30 is necessary, making sure that it is a broad spectrum sunblock. In other words, UVA and UVB coverage. This is important because each of the ultraviolet types cause different issues and problems and each must be taken into consideration. For women, making sure that your makeup and cosmetics have a sunblock mixed in is a good idea. But if not, then a base sunblock used underneath cosmetics is necessary. For men, especially those that work outside, frequent reapplication of the sunblock is necessary. And this is also true for times that involve physical activity outside with lots of sweating or swimming, and frequent reapplication of sunblock is important.

Proper sun protection can lead to improved skin quality as we age and can help to decrease the risk of skin cancer.  Contact us today for more information!
