Dr. Wiener, Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons President
This past weekend, September 12-14, I finished my tenure as president of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, at the annual meeting in San Antonio. This was also the 60th anniversary of the society, and it was an honor to serve during such an auspicious occasion.
The society was founded in 1954, and has included as members and officers some of the most renowned plastic surgeons in history. The inventors of the breast implant, Dr. Thomas Cronin and Dr. Frank Gerow were both presidents, and I had the pleasure of knowing both of these great men.
At this meeting, for our “Heritage Dinner” I brought in Frank de la Teja as speaker. He is professor of Southwestern studies and History at Texas State University. He was also the first Texas state historian, appointed by Governor Rick Perry. He gave a lively and very entertaining history of early Texas. His wife Maggie, is lovely and quite a success herself.
I consider my presidency of this great society as one of the most important events in my career. The society advocates for patient care including dealing with the state legislature, and national plastic surgery societies, and helps us, as plastic surgeons, care for our patients.
